Stormwater Management Solutions - Modeling

FluidState can help with your water modeling needs from runoff volume calculation to pollutant load estimation.

Hydraulic and Hydrologic Modeling:

H&H modeling can be time-consuming, especially when creating highly accurate models that account for small variations in landuse, soil type, topography, and drainage infrastructure routing. But it doesn’t have to be. With FluidState’s efficient GIS-based workflows, we can take relatively large areas and create the models you need to further planning and design for stormwater management Best Management Practices (BMPs), Required Agricultural Practices (RAPs), or structures like culverts and bridges.

We use the following programs:

  • HydroCAD (smaller, urbanized areas for runoff)

  • HY-8 (primarily for structures)

  • FishXing (for structure-related Aquatic Organism Passage (AOP) projects)

  • US EPA STEPL

Pollutant Load Modeling:

If you need to drill down to the finer details of pollutant load removal beyond simply using published reduction amounts for RAPs, BMPs, or other practices, we can help. We use WinSLAMM (Source Loading and Management Model for Windows) to input fine-scale landuse, soil type, compaction level, drainage connectivity, and traffic use (for roads) to generate pollutant load runoff and reduction estimates using real-world sampled runoff concentrations and BMPs reduction amounts from the Nationwide Urban Runoff Program (NURP).

Fine-scale pollutant reduction estimation can help with permit compliance, planning, and prioritization projects.
